DIVAKARUNI'S MUSE

an avid reader.JPG

This is Juno
bald-elbowed, stubby-tailed
goddess of our household
and occasional dictator.
She keeps vigil by my desk as I write.
When I am mired in writer’s block
I rub her belly.

P.S. We met up at the Houston SPCA animal shelter.

If you’re considering getting your own muse, do check out your local animal shelter. So many animals are waiting there, longing for a good home.

Update: Our Juno passed away several years ago. It was a great tragedy for all of us. However, she will always  remain in my heart and continue to be my muse. My children's picture book, Grandma and the Great Gourd, which features two heroic dogs, was inspired by Juno and is dedicated to her.
